MPD Makes Arrest in Brandywine Shooting
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announces the arrest of a suspect following a shooting that occurred in Southeast.
On Wednesday, September 3, 2026, at approximately 1:27 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to the 400 block of Brandywine Street, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an older teenage male victim who was conscious and breathing and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. Gunfire also caused property damage to a nearby residence; however, no additional injuries were reported.
Through the course of the investigation, Seventh District detectives gathered information and identified a suspect.
On Friday, October 9, 2026, as a result of the detectives' investigation, 19-year-old Kaliek Lawson, of Southeast, D.C., was located and placed under arrest. Lawson has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) and Misdemeanor Destruction of Property.
