The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in connection with the July homicide in Northwest.
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, at approximately 12:52 a.m., Third District officers responded to the 2900 block of 14th Street, Northwest, for the report of a stabbing. Officers located an adult male suffering from a stab wound. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene, found no signs consistent with life, and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as 56-year-old Charles Sharp of Northwest, D.C.
On Sunday, September 6, 2026, at approximately 9:43 a.m., Third District officers located and arrested the wanted suspect. During the arrest, a dog exited a different residence and charged at officers who had the suspect in custody. An MPD member discharged an electronic control device (ECD), and after a failed attempt, a separate member discharged their service pistol, striking the dog. The dog died due to its injuries. No MPD officers or the suspect were injured.
Pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, 25-year-old Andrew Tyree Richardson of Northwest, D.C., was charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed (CCN: 26096219). Richardson was also charged with Burglary in the First Degree and Possession of a BB Gun (CCN: 26126737).
The release of body-worn camera footage is pursuant to District of Columbia law (D.C. Official Code § 5–116.33 (c)(2)).
The officer-involved shooting is under investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau’s Force Investigations Team, which investigates all law enforcement officer-involved shootings in the District of Columbia.
