MPD Makes Arrest in Kenilworth Avenue Homicide

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announces the arrest of an adult male suspect in a homicide that occurred in Northeast in 2024.  

On Thursday, April 4, 2024, at approximately 4:06 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to the 700 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast for the report of gunshots. Upon arrival, responding officers located an adult male victim conscious and breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds. The victim was in critical but stable condition.  

On Sunday, January 19, 2025, the victim was pronounced dead in Hyattsville, Maryland.  According to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the victim's death was a result of a "Pulmonary thromboembolism, which was a result of paraplegia, caused by a gunshot wound to the torso," and the manner of death was ruled a Homicide. 

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Sean Crawford of Hyattsville, MD.  

On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, pursuant to a DC Superior Court booking order, members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fugitive Unit responded to DC Jail and charged 20-year-old Rodney Whiting, of Northeast, D.C., was charged with Second Degree Murder.
