MPD Investigating Dix Street Homicide

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Northeast.

On August 28, 2026, at approximately 1:42 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to the 6200 block of Dix Street, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located four adult males, all suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the adult males was located unconscious and not breathing. The other three victims are conscious and breathing. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported three of the victims to an area hospital. The fourth victim was airlifted by helicopter to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. Despite all life-saving efforts the fourth victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Cortes Lilly, of Northeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
