MPD Arrests Northeast Homicide Suspect

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect involved in a homicide that occurred in Northeast.

On Saturday, April 19, 2025, at approximately 8:07 a.m., Fifth District officers responded to a report of an unconscious person in the 1600 block of Maryland Avenue, Northeast. Officers located an adult female inside a dumpster. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life pronounced the woman dead.

On Sunday, April 20, 2025, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death was blunt force trauma and asphyxiation. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The decedent has been identified as 62-year-old Donella Bryan of Northeast, D.C.

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 58-year-old Richard Lionel Dyson of Northeast, D.C., was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.

The detectives’ investigation determined that the offense is domestic in nature.
