Members of the Metropolitan Police Department may work for certain private establishments when they are off duty or a formal agreement has been reached with the Department.  The officer’s are allowed to work these types of events provided they meet the requirements established by D.C. Law, Regulations, and directives of the Department. The selection and hiring processes vary depending on the type of work. There are three main types of jobs in which a member may work during his or her off hours or as approved by the Department:

• Special Event (Public Space Only)
• ABC Establishments (Primarily Public Space)
• Outside Employment (Private Property Only)
