Traffic Fatality: Intersection of South Capitol Street and Malcolm X Avenue, Southwest

Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality involving a single vehicle that occurred on Friday, November 8, 2019, in the intersection of South Capitol Street and Malcolm X Avenue, Southwest.

 

At approximately 12:30 am, a silver in color 2003 Mercedes Benz ML 500 was traveling southbound on South Capitol Street, Southwest approaching Malcolm X Avenue, Southwest. The driver of the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle in the 2800 block of South Capitol Street. As a result, the vehicle struck a brick security wall outside of Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. The impact caused the passenger of the vehicle to be partially ejected from the vehicle. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the passenger to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle was also transported to an area hospital for medical treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

 

The decedent has been identified as 28 year-old Dauntay Demetrice Carroll, of Southeast, DC.
