Traffic Fatality: Intersection of South Capitol Street and Firth Sterling Avenue, Southeast

Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality resulting from a crash that occurred on Monday, May 13, 2019, in the intersection of South Capitol Street and Firth Sterling Avenue, Southeast.

 

At approximately 5:19 am, a black BMW motorcycle was traveling south bound on South Capitol Street SW, in the left turn only lane, approaching Firth Sterling Avenue SE. At the same time, a silver Ford Edge was traveling north bound on South Capitol Street SE, in the left lane, approaching Firth Sterling Avenue SE. As both vehicles approached Firth Sterling Avenue SE, the BMW motorcycle proceeded to make a left turn onto east bound Firth Sterling Avenue, and was struck by the Ford Edge in the intersection. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported both drivers to area hospitals for treatment. On Friday, May 17, 2019, the operator of the BMW motorcycle succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

 

The decedent has been identified as 37-year-old Molly Waters, of Alexandria, VA.
