Traffic Fatality: 2700 Block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southeast

Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality resulting from a crash that occurred on Friday, May 17, 2019, in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southeast.

 

At approximately 10:28 pm, a 2016 Ford Explorer was traveling south bound in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southeast, in the left lane. A female pedestrian, who was previously standing on the east sidewalk in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southeast, crossed from the east sidewalk towards the west sidewalk on foot, outside of a marked crosswalk. While crossing the street, the pedestrian was struck by the Ford Explorer. The driver of the Ford Explorer remained on the scene.

 

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to an area hospital for severe injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, the pedestrian was pronounced dead.

 

The decedent has not been identified at this time.
