Friday, May 3, 2019

On Monday, May 6, 2019, the 40th Annual Washington Area Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service will take place in the District of Columbia. In conjunction with this event, there will be several street closures that motorists should take into consideration.

On Monday May 6, 2019, the following streets will be closed to both the public and law enforcements members, to allow for street cleaning prior to the service. Only vehicles participating in the ceremony will be allowed to park in these areas. Closures will be effective from approximately 6:30 am to approximately 3:00 pm:

  • D Street, NW from 3rd Street, NW to 4th Street, NW
  • Indiana Avenue, NW – from 4th Street, NW to 5th Street, NW

The public should expect parking restrictions in the area and should be guided by the posted emergency no parking signage. All vehicles that are parked along the route and in violation of the emergency no parking signs will be ticketed and towed.

Motorists traveling in the area of this event may experience delays and should consider alternative routes. The Metropolitan Police Department would like to remind motorists to pay full attention whenever operating any motor vehicle and to be mindful of heavy pedestrian traffic that may be associated with special events. These street closings are subject to change without notice based upon unanticipated events and prevailing conditions.
