MPD’s Weekly Firearm Recoveries:

June 29, 2020 to July 6, 2020

 

(Washington, DC) – Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, June 29, 2020, through Monday, July 6, 2020, MPD detectives and officers recovered 19 firearms in the District of Columbia.

Monday, June 29, 2020

  • A Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 5200 block of E Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 19-year-old Juwan Williams, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Counterfeit Tags. Tuesday, June 30, 2020

  • A Smith & Wesson M&P Shield .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 3900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 44-year-old Savontae Dodie Perkins, of Southeast, D.C., for Driving under the Influence, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of Liquid PCP.   • A Taurus .45 caliber handgun and a Century Mini Draco 7.62x39 caliber handgun were recovered in the 1000 block of 14th Street, Southeast. CCN: 20-095-406

 

Wednesday, July 1, 2020

  • A Glock 27 .40 caliber handgun, a Marlin Arms XS7 .243 caliber rifle, and a Mossberg Maverick 88 12 gauge shotgun (all pictured below) were recovered in the 2400 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 45-year-old Robert Dean Dennis, of Southeast, D.C., for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • A Glock 27 .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 2700 block of Terrace Road, Southeast. CCN: 20-095-908

 

Friday, July 3, 2020

  • A Smith & Wesson M&P .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 2000 block of 16th Street, Southeast. The following people were arrested: 30-year-old Amos Davon Jones, of Southeast, D.C., and 25-year-old Carlos Eugene Shelley, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, National Firearms Act, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Tampering with a GPS Device, and Felon in Possession. Saturday, July 4, 2020

  • A Springfield Armory XD9 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 44-year-old Myron Lionel Howard, of Upper Marlboro, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition.   • A Taurus PT99AF 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 2000 block of 14th Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 27-year-old Medahne Tedese, of Southeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Obliterate, Remove, change, or Alter the Serial Number of a Firearm.   • A Taurus PT 945 .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 200 block of Farragut Street, Northwest. CCN: 20-097-025
  • A Bryce Arms Jennings 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 4200 block of 6th Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 22-year-old Rashid Handy, of Oxon Hill, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and No Permit.   • A Taurus 38 Special .38 caliber revolver was recovered in the 1400 block of Independence Avenue, Southwest. The following person was arrested: 27-year-old Christopher Drayton, of Southwest, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License in a Gun Free Zone. CCN: 20-097-031

 

Sunday, July 5, 2020

  • A Clerke revolver was recovered in the 1500 block of Maine Avenue, Southwest. CCN: 20-097-393
  • A Smith & Wesson .38 caliber handgun and a Ruger .22 caliber handgun were recovered in the 4900 block of 8th Street, Northeast. CCN: 20-097-347
  • A Glock 19 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 4200 block of Clay Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 22-year-old Donelle Tyrique Woods, of Bryans Road, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. Monday, July 6, 2020

  • A Glock 26 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1400 block of North Capitol Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 27-year-old Omar Olatoundji Saibou, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. CCN: 20-097-874

 

 

It is one of MPD’s main goals to safely remove illegal firearms from DC streets to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. The responsibility to recover firearms falls on the -shoulders of all MPD officers. We also thank members of the community for their help in creating safe neighborhoods.

 

The Metropolitan Police Department also recovers firearms with the assistance of anonymous tips made through MPD’s anonymous tip line. Anyone who has information regarding gun recoveries should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information July be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $2,500 to anyone who provides information that leads to the recovery of an illegal firearm hidden in the District of Columbia.
