(Washington, DC) – Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, July 8, 2019, through Monday, July 15, 2019, MPD detectives and officers recovered 38 firearms in the District of Columbia.

Tuesday, July 9, 2019

  • A Winchester 190 .22 caliber rifle (pictured below) was recovered in the 2000 block of Benning Road, Northeast. CCN: 19-119-983

  • A Davis Industries P380 .380 caliber handgun and a Hi-Point 9mm caliber handgun were recovered in the 1400 block of T Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 41-year-old Ricardo Williams, of Northeast, D.C., for Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition. CCN: 19-120-064
  • A Smith & Wesson MP9 Shield 9mm caliber handgun and a .556 caliber rifle were recovered in the 2300 block of Washington Place, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 25-year-old Phil Darkwah, of Alexandria, VA, for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • An XCP .177 caliber BB gun was recovered in the 300 block of 8th Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 22-year-old Timothy Antwon House, of Southwest, D.C., for Possession of a BB gun. CCN: 19-120-042

 

Wednesday, July 10, 2019

  • A Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 3300 block of East Capitol Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 29-year-old Michael Rashard Jenkins, of Northeast, D.C., for Robbery, Theft in the First Degree, Armed Carjacking, Felon in Possession, and Probation Violation. CCN: 19-118-188
  • A Springfield XD40 .40 caliber handgun, a Ruger P345 .45 caliber handgun, and a Davis Derringer D-38 .38 caliber handgun (all pictured below) were recovered in the 6100 block of Dix Street, Northeast. The following people were arrested: 49-year-old Reginald William Keys, of Northwest, D.C., and 30-year-old Rodney Thomas, of Northeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Possession of Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance.   • A Glock 26 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 3200 block of Buena Vista Terrace, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 27-year-old Oragui Travis Ogechukwu, of Alexandria, VA, Felon in Possession. CCN: 19-120-805

  • An Armi Tanfolglio Giuseppe .25 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1800 block of 18th Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 33-year-old Robert Harper, of Southeast, D.C, for Felon in Possession, Obliterate, Remove, change, or Alter the Serial Number of a Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition.   • A Clerke Technicorp .32 caliber revolver was recovered in the 5600 block of 3rd Street, Northeast. CCN: 19-120-584

  • A Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 500 block of Nicholson Street, Northeast. CCN: 19-121-038
  • A Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 2600 block of Birney Place, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 19-year-old Charles Whitney, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Receiving Stolen Property.   • An Armscor Special Edition .38 caliber revolver was recovered in the 1500 block of 19th Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 47-year-old Martina Brown, of Southeast, D.C., for Firearms Possessed by Convicted Felons. CCN: 19-121-272
  • A Smith & Wesson SD9VE 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the Unit block of 50th Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 21-year-old DeAndre Shaquor Smith, of Hyattsville, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Fugitive from Justice, and Resisting Arrest.   • A Glock 27 .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 300 block of 18th Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 16-year-old juvenile male, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition.   • A Taurus PT111-G2 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 900 block of 3rd Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 29-year-old Andre Mitchell, of Southeast, D.C., for Pandering, Felon in Possession, and Receiving Stolen Property. CCN: 19-121-607
  • A Springfield 187S .22 caliber rifle (pictured below) was recovered in the 1800 block of 24th Street, Northeast. CCN: 19-121-929

  • A Taurus Millennium P211 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 700 block of Farragut Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 38-year-old Harry Lane, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance.   • A Sig Sauer P320 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 400 block of New Jersey Avenue, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 32-year-old Cody Lee Adams, of Virginia Beach, VA, for Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Carrying a Pistol without a License.   • A Springfield Armory XD-45 Mod 2 ACP .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 4500 block of Quarles Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: a 25-year-old Wakee Bowie, of Southeast, D.C., for Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed, Felon in Possession, Distribution of Marijuana, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Receiving Stolen Property, Assault on a Police Officer, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition.   • A Glock 30 .45 caliber handgun, a Norinco Arms SKS 7.62 caliber rifle, and an Eastern Arms 16 gauge shotgun (all pictured below) were recovered in the 100 block of Upsal Street, Southeast. The following people were arrested: 19-year-old Crevonte Stewart Brown, of Southeast, D.C., 21-year-old Domonte Gibson, of Southeast, D.C., and 24-year-old Barry Ronta Blaine, Jr., of Northeast, D.C., for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • A Beretta 92FS 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 5100 block of Queens Stroll Place, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 52-year-old Barry Geroid Giles, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition. The following person was arrested: 26-year-old Vandi Massaqui, of Northeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed, and Carrying a Pistol without a License.   • A .38 caliber revolver was recovered in the 300 block of 63rd Street, Northeast. CCN: 19-122-462
  • A Smith & Wesson CTG .22 caliber rifle was recovered in the Unit block of 35th Street, Northeast. CCN: 19-123-547

Monday, July 15, 2019

  • A Taurus PT145 .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 1900 block of Ridgecrest Court, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 28-year-old Tayone Casey, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Felon in Possession, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance. CCN: 19-123-988
  • A Hi-Point 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 5000 block of Hayes Street, Northeast. CCN: 19-123-641

 

 

 

 

It is one of MPD’s main goals to safely remove illegal firearms from DC streets to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. The responsibility to recover firearms falls on the -shoulders of all MPD officers. We also thank members of the community for their help in creating safe neighborhoods.

 

The Metropolitan Police Department also recovers firearms with the assistance of anonymous tips made through MPD’s anonymous tip line. Anyone who has information regarding gun recoveries should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information July be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $2,500 to anyone who provides information that leads to the recovery of an illegal firearm hidden in the District of Columbia.
