July 13, 2020 to July 20, 2020

 

(Washington, DC) – Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, July 13, 2020, through Monday, July 20, 2020, MPD detectives and officers recovered 27 firearms in the District of Columbia.

Tuesday, July 14, 2020

  • A .40 caliber “Ghost Gun” handgun and a .45 caliber “Ghost Gun” handgun were recovered in the 1600 block of 16th Street, Northwest. The following people were arrested: 22-year-old Mikeal Matthews, of Northwest, D.C., and 23-year-old Tyjze Knight, of Northwest, D.C., for Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Firearms Possessed by Convicted Felons.   • A Lorcin 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 2300 block of 11th Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 28-year-old Madahne Tedese, of Northwest, D.C., for Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Felon in Possession. CCN: 20-101-524
  • A Glock 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 800 block of Howard Road, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 26-year-old Joshua Blankenship, of Pasadena, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition. CCN: 20-101-417

 

Wednesday, July 15, 2020

  • A .357 caliber “Ghost Gun” handgun, a Tippman M4 Carbine .68 caliber BB rifle, and a HK USP 4.5mm caliber BB gun (all pictured below) were recovered in the 2400 block of Elvans Road, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 29-year-old Charles Yelverton, of Southeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Thursday, July 16, 2020

  • A Taurus Millennium G-2 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 5000 block of C Street, Southeast. CCN: 20-102-553
  • A 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 5400 block of Bass Place, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 38-year-old Willie Joe Hunter, of Southeast, D.C., for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Carrying a Pistol without a License. CCN: 20-102-109

 

Friday, July 17, 2020

  • A Taurus PTIII Pro 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1300 block of Fairmont Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 16-year-old male juvenile, of Northwest, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • A Springfield Armory XD40 .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 900 block of 21st Street, Northeast. CCN: 20-102-935
  • An FNH FNS 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 4400 block of Ponds Street, Southeast. CCN: 20-102-722

 

Saturday, July 18, 2020

  • A Lounge American revolver was recovered in the 4300 block of Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, Northeast. CCN: 20-103-217
  • A Smith & Wesson SD 9VE 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 4300 block of Polk Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 25-year-old Isiah Pittman, of Northwest, D.C., for Robbery while Armed, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Felon in Possession, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Theft, and Possession of a Large Ammunition Feeding Device.   • A Glock 42 .380 caliber handgun was recovered in the 900 block of 3rd Street, Southwest. The following person was arrested: 17-year-old male juvenile, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm.   • A Remington Arms Union 870 Express shotgun was recovered in the 400 block of Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest. CCN: 20-103-225

  • A Smith & Wesson SD40VE .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 1800 block of Adams Street, Northeast. CCN: 20-103-783
  • A .40 caliber “Ghost Gun” handgun was recovered in the 2500 block of 12th Place, Southeast. CCN: 20-103-706
  • A Springfield Arms XD-9 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 5100 block of A Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 50-year-old David Jason Wheeler, of Southeast, D.C., for Driving under the Influence, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Fugitive from Justice, and No Permit.   • An unknown make 9mm caliber handgun and a Colt 38 Detective Special .38 caliber revolver (both pictured below) were recovered in the 4200 block of Cathedral Avenue, Northwest. CCN: 20-104-106

  • A Glock 26 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 5400 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest. CCN: 20-104-234

  • A Glock 19 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 200 block of Q Street, Northeast. CCN: 20-104-041

It is one of MPD’s main goals to safely remove illegal firearms from DC streets to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. The responsibility to recover firearms falls on the -shoulders of all MPD officers. We also thank members of the community for their help in creating safe neighborhoods.

 

The Metropolitan Police Department also recovers firearms with the assistance of anonymous tips made through MPD’s anonymous tip line. Anyone who has information regarding gun recoveries should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information July be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $2,500 to anyone who provides information that leads to the recovery of an illegal firearm hidden in the District of Columbia.
