(Washington, DC) – Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, April 6, 2020, through Monday, April 13, 2020, MPD detectives and officers recovered 30 firearms in the District of Columbia.

Tuesday, April 7, 2020

  • A Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the Unit block of Forrester Street, Southwest. The following person was arrested: 19-year-old Taleem, of Southwest, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, National Firearms Act, and Possession of Large Capacity Ammunition Device. CCN: 20-056-136

  • A Ruger P89 9mm caliber handgun and a Smith & Wesson SW40VE .40 caliber handgun were recovered in the 800 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast. CCN: 20-056-219
  • A Magnum Research Desert Eagle .44 caliber handgun was recovered in the 500 block of Ridge Road, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 21-year-old Jonathan Edward Lattimore, of Northwest, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Receiving Stolen Property, Assault on a Police Officer, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance.   • A Glock 17 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 300 block of 50th Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 19-year-old LaMaury Bryant, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.   • A Walther PPK 7.65 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1500 block of Butler Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 19-year-old Xavier Brooks, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Resisting Arrest.   • A Taurus PT-101AF .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 3900 block of Minnesota Avenue, Southeast. CCN: 20-056-543
  • A FNH USA M4 Caroine 5.56 caliber rifle was recovered in the 3900 block of Minnesota Avenue, Southeast. CCN: 20-056-545
  • A SCCY CPX-1 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 4800 block of Texas Avenue, Southeast. The following people were arrested: 18-year-old Kayvon Bell, of Southeast, D.C., and 19-year-old Anton Anthony Goodman, of Southwest, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.   • A Smith & Wesson SD40 .40 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 600 block of Galveston Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 21-year-old Alonzo Hinnant, of Fort Washington, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. The following person was arrested: 21-year-old Raekwon Sutton, of Northwest, D.C., for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, No Permit, Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle, Leaving after Colliding, Destruction of Property, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Theft Second Degree, Reckless Driving, and Fleeing from a Law Enforcement Officer.   • A Mossberg 20 gauge pump-action shotgun was recovered in the 300 block of Anacostia Road, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 35-year-old James Williams Bryant, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Rifle or Shotgun outside a Home or Business, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.   • A Daisy Powerline 426 .177 caliber BB gun was recovered in the 400 block of Taylor Street, Southeast. CCN: 20-057-561
  • A 20 gauge shotgun was recovered in the 100 block of Bates Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 28-year-old David Butler, of Northwest, D.C., for Carrying a Rifle or Shotgun outside a Home or Business, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition.   • A Glock 19 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 2000 block of C Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 24-year-old Damion Johnson, of Northeast, D.C., for Loaning Registration, Misuse of Temporary Tags, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.   • A Smith & Wesson SW357V .357 caliber handgun and a Taurus PT111 G2 9mm caliber handgun (both pictured below) were recovered in the Unit block of Forrester Street, Southwest. The following people were arrested: 22-year-old Delonte Williams, of Southeast, D.C., and 23-year-old Terry Marcus Ward, of Southwest, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.   • A Smith & Wesson SD9VE 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 1200 block of Howison Place, Southwest. The following people were arrested: 20-year-old Jacquan Shuler, of Southwest, D.C., and 16-year-old male juvenile, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Receiving Stolen Property, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.   • A Springfield Armory XP .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 100 block of Ivanhoe Street, Southwest. The following person was arrested: 19-year-old Anthony Eugene Barnes, of Northwest, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm. It is one of MPD’s main goals to safely remove illegal firearms from DC streets to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. The responsibility to recover firearms falls on the -shoulders of all MPD officers. We also thank members of the community for their help in creating safe neighborhoods.

 

The Metropolitan Police Department also recovers firearms with the assistance of anonymous tips made through MPD’s anonymous tip line. Anyone who has information regarding gun recoveries should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information July be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $2,500 to anyone who provides information that leads to the recovery of an illegal firearm hidden in the District of Columbia.
