MPD Officer-Involved Shooting: 100 Block of Joliet Street, Southwest

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Joliet Street, Southwest, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

At approximately 6:24 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the area for an initial report of a motor vehicle accident, which was updated to a woman with a gun by dispatchers. When officers arrived on scene they encountered an adult female who was holding a black semi-automatic pistol.  They gave multiple commands for the suspect to drop the weapon.  The suspect ignored the officers commands, raised her weapon in the direction of officers, and the officers fired their service weapons striking the suspect.

DC Fire and EMS transported the suspect to an area hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.  The decedent has been identified as 41-year-old Isabelle Duval of Winchester, VA.

The suspect’s gun was recovered on scene and is pictured below.

No other individuals were injured during this incident.  The officers involved were placed on administrative leave, pursuant to MPD policy.
