The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred over night in the Northbound lanes of DC-95.
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, at approximately 2:29 a.m., Sixth District officers responded to the Northbound lanes of DC-295 near the exit for Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast, for the report of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male pedestrian, unconscious and not breathing, who was struck by a Toyota Camry. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and despite all lifesaving measures, the pedestrian was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 58-year-old Lee Clark, of Capitol Heights, MD.
The preliminary investigation indicates the blue 2025 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on DC 295 at an apparent high rate of speed in the second lane from the ramp leading from I-695 to merge with northbound DC 295. Just before the vehicle got to the underpass of the Anacostia Foot Trail bridge, it struck an adult male pedestrian that was in the roadway. The occupants of the Toyota fled the scene on foot without identifying themselves.
Detectives from MPD’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are handling this investigation.
