MPD’s Weekly Firearm Recoveries: May 13, 2019 to May 20, 2019

Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Criminal Interdiction Unit (CIU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, May 13, 2019, through Monday, May 20, 2019, MPD detectives and officers recovered 41 firearms in the District of Columbia.

• A Pack West Arms Makarov .9mm handgun was recovered in the 2800 block of Belair Place, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 28-year-old Brittnie Dianna Mugg, of Southeast, D.C., for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Wednesday, May 15, 2019

• A Smith & Wesson SD40VE .40 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 2100 block of 4^th Street, Northwest. The following people were arrested: 18-year-old Keyvon Johnson, of Northwest, D.C., 18-year-old Tevon Johnson, of Northwest, D.C., and 22-year-old Joe El Makel Brown, of Northeast, D.C., for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. • A Taurus PT738 .380 caliber handgun with laser sight and a Harrington & Richardson 732 .32 caliber revolver (both pictured below) was recovered in the 1500 block of 45^th Street, Northeast. • A Glock 19 .9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 400 block of Melon Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 19-year-old Dominique Xavier Wooten, of Southeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of an Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. • A Glock 48 .9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 1800 block of Independence Avenue, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 19-year-old Sayyed Mimiko, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Unlawful Entry, Obliterate, Remove, Change, or Alter the Serial Number of a Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition. The following person was arrested: 19-year-old Carlos Wilson, of Northwest, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Failure to Obey an Officer, and Possession with Intent to Distribute. • An Aero Precision, Inc. X15 AR 14762 .223 caliber rifle and a Glock 30 .40 caliber handgun (both pictured below) were recovered in the 500 block of 59^th Street, Northeast. The following people were arrested: 43-year-old Darryl Hazel, of Northeast, D.C., and 46-year-old Javon Renault Holmes, of Northeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance. • A Glock 30 .45 caliber handgun with laser sight and a Glock 30 Gen 4 .45 caliber handgun were recovered in the 1000 block of Ridge Road, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 39-year-old Victor Stewart Epps, of Southeast, D.C., for Simple Assault, Possession with an Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession Ammunition, and Carrying a Pistol without a License. The following person was arrested: 43-year-old Tanisha Thomas, of Northeast, D.C., for Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Bench Warrant, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The following person was arrested: 28-year-old Andre Delante Eaton, of Roanoke, VA, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Unlawful Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The following person was arrested: 25-year-old Luke Maurice Whitaker, of Northwest, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Obliterate, Remove, Change, or Alter the Serial Number of a Firearm. • A Ruger Security 9 .9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 700 block of Division Avenue, Northeast. CCN: 19-087-090

It is one of MPD’s main goals to safely remove illegal firearms from DC streets to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. The responsibility to recover firearms falls on the -shoulders of all MPD officers. We also thank members of the community for their help in creating safe neighborhoods.

 

The Metropolitan Police Department also recovers firearms with the assistance of anonymous tips made through MPD’s anonymous tip line. Anyone who has information regarding gun recoveries should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information may be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $2,500 to anyone who provides information that leads to the recovery of an illegal firearm hidden in the District of Columbia.
