June 10, 2019 to June 17, 2019

 

(Washington, DC) – Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, June 10, 2019, through Monday, June 17, 2019, MPD detectives and officers recovered 26 firearms in the District of Columbia.

Tuesday, June 11, 2019

  • A Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver (pictured below) was recovered in the 300 block of Anacostia Road, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 29-year-old Kevin James Young, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.   • A Smith & Wesson .45 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1600 block of E Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 45-year-old Terry Steven Harris, of Clinton, MD, for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Felon in Possession, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • A Smith & Wesson 59 .9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 4400 block of Douglas Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 16-year-old juvenile, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. CCN: 19-101-603

  • A Smith & Wesson MP40 .40mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 2000 block of Savannah Terrace, Southeast. The following people were arrested: 29-year-old Valencia Irvin Holmes, of Southeast, D.C., and 21-year-old Dyamond Smith, of Fort Washington, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • A Gamo P25 blowback .177 caliber BB gun was recovered in the 1600 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast. CCN: 19-101-600

 

Wednesday, June 12, 2019

  • A Beretta 21A .22 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the Unit block of 50th Street, Southeast. The following people were arrested: 23-year-old Indigo Harper, of Landover, MD, and 26-year-old Bandon Donovah Collier, of Temple Hills, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License. CCN: 19-102-397

  • A Sig Sauer BB gun was recovered in the 6000 block of 13th Street, Northwest. CCN: 19-097-858
  • A Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver was recovered from the 3200 block of 16th Street, Northwest. CCN: 19-102-283
  • A Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun with laser sight was recovered in the 1500 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast. The following people were arrested: 23-year-old Diamante Rodriguez, of Southeast, D.C. and 22-year-old Marcus Q. Griffin, of Southeast, D.C. for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition. CCN: 19-102-448
  • A Springfield XD .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 1300 block of Half Street, Southwest. CCN: 19-102-549

Thursday, June 13, 2019

  • A Jimenez Arms .380 caliber handgun was recovered in the 300 block of 51st Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 25-year-old Richard Tomlinson, of Northeast, D.C., for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Firearms Possessed by Convicted Felons, and Obliterate, Remove, Change, or Alter the Serial Number of a Firearm.   • A Ruger SR-9C .9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 1200 block of Euclid Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 36-year-old Erick Corteze McNair, of Northeast, D.C., for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Failure to Register a Firearm, Failure to Holster, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Reckless Driving, Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Escape from an Officer.   • A Jimenez Arms .380 caliber handgun, a Walther PPS .9mm caliber handgun, and a Diamond Back DB15 5.56 caliber assault rifle (all pictured below) were recovered in the Unit block of M Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 31-year-old Burack Sahiner, of Northeast, D.C., for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Receiving Stolen Property, and Carrying a Pistol without a License. Saturday, June 15, 2019

  • A Springfield XDS 45ACP .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 5000 block of Benning Road, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 21-year-old Juwan Ray Cofield, of Clinton, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Fugitive from Justice.   • A Smith & Wesson SD40VE .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 4700 block of Quarles Street, Northeast. CCN: 19-104-620
  • A Smith & Wesson Winchester .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 900 block of 19th Street, Northeast. CCN: 19-104-619
  • A Glock 36 .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 2100 block of Queens Chapel Road, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 30-year-old Jeffrey Thomas, of Southeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Failure to Appear, and Parole Violation. Sunday, June 16, 2019

  • A Glock 27 .40 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 4500 block of Quarles Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 24-year-old Dwayne Gail Lane, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • An AR pistol and a Taurus Millennium PT111 G2 .9mm caliber handgun (both pictured below) were recovered in the 4000 block of 3rd Street, Southeast. The following people were arrested: 55-year-old Rickey Raymond Walker, of Southeast, D.C., and 25-year-old Tyrone Lamar Martin, of Southeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Monday, June 17, 2019

  • A Ruger .9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 2100 block of E Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 31-year-old Davyd Jaron Jones, of Fort Wayne, IN, for Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. CCN: 19-105-557
  • A Taurus G2C .9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 3800 block of Hayes Street, Northeast. CCN: 19-105-599

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It is one of MPD’s main goals to safely remove illegal firearms from DC streets to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. The responsibility to recover firearms falls on the -shoulders of all MPD officers. We also thank members of the community for their help in creating safe neighborhoods.

 

The Metropolitan Police Department also recovers firearms with the assistance of anonymous tips made through MPD’s anonymous tip line. Anyone who has information regarding gun recoveries should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information June be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $2,500 to anyone who provides information that leads to the recovery of an illegal firearm hidden in the District of Columbia.
