Arrest Made in a Homicide: 4300 Block of G Street, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in reference to a homicide that occurred on Saturday, March 16, 2019, in the 4300 block of G Street, Southeast.

 

At approximately 9:35 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of an unconscious infant. Upon arrival, members observed DC Fire and EMS personnel performing life-saving measures on an unconscious and unresponsive infant inside of a residence. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was admitted in grave condition. On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, the infant succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy was performed. As a result, the cause of death was determined to be blunt force injuries and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The decedent has been identified as 3 month-old Skylar Newman of Southeast, DC.

 

On Sunday, May 5, 2019, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 25-year-old Cornell Delvonte Holton, of no fixed address. He has been charged with First Degree Murder- Felony Murder and First Degree Cruelty to Children.
