Wanted Suspect Sought in a Homicide: 1300 Block of Half Street, Southwest

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, in the 1300 block of Half Street, Southwest

 

At approximately 1:15 pm, members of the First District responded to the listed location for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and determined the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The decedent remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

 

The decedent has been identified as 15 year-old Thomas Johnson, of Southeast, DC.

 

The suspect in this case has been identified as 18 year old, Javon Gunter, of Southwest, DC. He is currently wanted on a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with First Degree Murder while Armed. Gunter should be considered armed and dangerous and can be seen in the photo below:

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099.
