Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic crash that occurred on Friday, June 19, 2020, at the intersection of South Dakota Avenue and Quincy Street, Northeast.
Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 1:16 pm, the victim was traveling in the northwest direction in the 3800 block of South Dakota Avenue, Northeast. It appears the victim lost control of the scooter, struck the right curb and was then ejected from the vehicle. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified 43 year-old Javon Gilbert, of Northeast, DC.
