Traffic Fatality: Intersection of 11th Street and Independence Avenue, Southeast

Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality that occurred on Monday, May 4, 2020, between the intersection of 11th Street and Independence Avenue, Southeast.

Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 12:36 am, a vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed and crashed into another vehicle at listed location. The impact caused the vehicles to strike multiple parked vehicles. Following the collision, two occupants exited the first vehicle and fled on foot. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash and located a passenger inside of the first vehicle. The passenger was pronounced dead on the scene and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has not yet been identified.

This case remains under investigation.
