Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, in the 5000 block of North Capitol Street, Northeast.
The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 6:25 pm, the operator of a 2011 Ford Escape was travelling northbound on North Capitol Street, NE. The operator then struck the pedestrian, who was walking across the 5000 block of North Capitol Street, NE. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services were summoned to the scene and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital. After all lifesaving efforts failed, the pedestrian was pronounced dead. The operator of the Ford Escape remained on the scene.
The decedent has not yet been identified.
