Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality involving a pedestrian that occurred on Friday, May 3, 2019, in the 4300 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast.
At approximately 11:24 pm, the operator of a 2015 Buick Encore was traveling at a high rate of speed, northbound in the 4200 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast. As the striking vehicle crossed the intersection of Southern Avenue and Beck Street SE, it struck a pedestrian, who was crossing Southern Avenue in the south crosswalk. The striking vehicle came to a final rest in the 4300 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast. The driver then exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and found the victim displayed no signs consistent with life and was pronounced dead. The decedent remained on the scene until being transported to Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The decedent has been identified as 24-year-old Joshua Lorenzo Williams, of Southeast, DC.
