Statement in Reference to MPD Officer Struck by Stolen Vehicle

Friday, January 10, 2020

Shortly before 6:00 p.m., while assisting the DC Housing Authority Police during a traffic stop in the area of Benning Road and Minnesota Avenue Northeast, a Sixth District MPD officer was struck by the operator of a stolen vehicle not involved in the initial traffic stop. The officer sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

After striking the officer, the stolen vehicle fled and was recovered in close proximity to the scene. One subject was taken into custody by responding officers, while two suspects remain at-large. The investigation into the incident and the search for the suspects remains ongoing.

We encourage the community to assist us with the investigation by providing relevant information to 202.727.9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department's TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50-411.

The men and women of the Metropolitan Police Department respond to calls willingly and selflessly each shift. And while they often face dangerous situations, it is cowardly that someone would use a vehicle to inflict harm on our member. Our thoughts are with the officer at this time and we wish her a speedy recovery.
