August 5, 2019 to August 12, 2019

 

(Washington, DC) – Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, August 5, 2019, through Monday, August 12, 2019, MPD detectives and officers recovered 51 firearms in the District of Columbia.

Tuesday, August 6, 2019

  • A .40 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 2700 block of Wade Road, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 21-year-old Davon Johnson, of Southeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession. CCN: 19-138-362

 

  • A Bayard .32 caliber handgun and a .32 caliber revolver were recovered in the 3800 block of Argyle Terrace, Northwest. CCN: 19-138-289
  • A Russo .38 caliber revolver was recovered in the 1700 block of 3rd Street, Northeast.  CCN: 19-138-423
  • A Berretta 950 .25 caliber handgun was recovered in the 1300 block of T Street, Southeast.  The following person was arrested: 51-year-old Carlos E. Smith, of Southeast, D.C., for Simple Assault and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.  CCN: 19-138-566
  • A Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun and a Springfield Arms ASP KD45 .45 caliber handgun were recovered in the 4000 block of Wheeler Road, Southeast.  The following people were arrested: 34-year-old Mario Romel Rojas, III, of Southeast, D.C., and 28-year-old Arman Johnson, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Felon in Possession, National Firearms Act, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed, Fleeing from Law Enforcement in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Resisting Arrest.  CCN: 19-138-607
  • A Smith & Wesson 39-2 .9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 1700 block of 17th Street, Southeast.  The following person was arrested: 22-year-old David Allen Thompson, of Southeast, D.C., for Sexual Solicitation, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Manufacturing or Possession with Intent to Manufacture a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.  CCN: 19-138-660

  • A Taurus PT140 G2 .40 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1400 block of Bangor Street, Southeast. The following people were arrested: 36-year-old Danielle Lisa Williams, of Oxon Hill, MD, and 21-year-old Christen Wingfield, of Southeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition.   • A Bersa Thunder 380 .380 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1400 block of Bangor Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 20-year-old Vernon Lamont Wright, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition.   • A Smith & Wesson handgun was recovered in the 400 block of E Street, Northwest.  The following person was arrested: 33-year-old Haile Wade, of Northeast, D.C., for Fugitive from Justice, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Carrying a Pistol without a License.  CCN: 19-139-413

  • A Taurus PT111G2 9mm caliber handgun, a Taurus PT111G2 9mm caliber handgun, and a SCCY CPX-2 9mm caliber handgun were recovered in the 1000 block of Q Street, Southeast.  The following people were arrested: 25-year-old Domineke Coates, of Southeast, D.C., 24-year-old Dominique Taron Prince, of Southeast, D.C., 21-year-old Chaquan Michael Barbett, of Southeast, D.C., and 31-year-old Ehren Michael Fluellyn, of no fixed address, for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Fugitive from Justice.  CCN: 19-139-090

  • A Mossberg 590 12 gauge shotgun was recovered in the 800 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast.  The following person was arrested: 53-year-old Gregory Dean Thomas, of Southeast, D.C., for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance.  CCN: 19-139-583

The following person arrested: 25-year-old Brandon Parker, of District Heights, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.  CCN: 19-140-396
  • A Smith & Wesson handgun and a Glock 43 handgun were recovered in the 2900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 20-year-old Tyejuan Daquann Harkum, of Southeast, D.C., for Possession of an Unregistered Firearm and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance. It is one of MPD’s main goals to safely remove illegal firearms from DC streets to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. The responsibility to recover firearms falls on the -shoulders of all MPD officers. We also thank members of the community for their help in creating safe neighborhoods.

 

The Metropolitan Police Department also recovers firearms with the assistance of anonymous tips made through MPD’s anonymous tip line. Anyone who has information regarding gun recoveries should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information July be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $2,500 to anyone who provides information that leads to the recovery of an illegal firearm hidden in the District of Columbia.
