The Metropolitan Police Department announces an arrest in a series of offenses that occurred in Northwest.
On Thursday, August 13, 2026, at approximately 6:59 p.m., officers from the Third District responded to a report of gunshots in the 1400 block of Columbia Road, Northwest. The suspect had discharged a firearm, striking property only, before fleeing the scene on foot. Responding officers, along with members of the National Guard, quickly located the suspect. MPD placed the suspect under arrest without incident and recovered a firearm. There were no reported injuries.
18-year-old Jude Gayden, of Northeast, D.C. was charged with:
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun)
- Felony Destruction of Property
- Unlawful Discarding of Firearms/Ammunition
- Carrying a Pistol Without a License
- Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device
- Possession of Unregistered Firearm
- Possession of Unregistered Ammunition
- Endangerment with a Firearm
- Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm
