The Metropolitan Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in identifying suspects involved in a shooting that occurred during a robbery in Chinatown. The shooting victim was arrested in for a carjacking that occurred immediately following the shooting.
On Saturday, May 24, 2025, at approximately 4:10 p.m., First District officers responded to intersection of 7th and H Street, Northwest for the report of a shooting. Officers located a crime scene but no shooting victim.
Moments later, officers received a call for an Armed Carjacking in an alley to the rear of the 400 block of H Street, Northwest. The suspect approached the victim and attempted to take control of the victim’s moped but was unsuccessful. The suspect was located in the 400 block of Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest, and placed under arrest. The suspect was suffering a gunshot wound and transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. 20-year-old Charnell Whitfield, of Southeast, DC, was charged with Armed Carjacking (Gun). The detectives’ investigation revealed that prior to the carjacking, Whitfield was approached by two suspects at 7th and H Streets, Northwest. The suspects demanded property at gunpoint and fired a gunshot. The suspects took property from Whitfield and then fled the scene. Whitfield then fled to the 400 block of H Street where the carjacking occurred. CCN: 25077498

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia.
