The Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau and Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that led to an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday morning in Northeast.

On Thursday, October 29, 2026, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Sixth District officers responded to the 4100 block of Minnesota Avenue, Northeast, for the report of a shooting at a bus stop. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who was unconscious and not breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where, despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced deceased.

The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Yeferson Moreno-Gimenez, of Temple Hills, Maryland.

At approximately 5:19 a.m., Sixth District officers responded to the 3900 block of Minnesota Avenue, Northeast, for the report of a male suspect firing a gun in a business parking lot. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect brandishing a firearm. As officers exited their vehicle, the suspect discharged the firearm in the direction of a bystander exiting the business, resulting in the officer subsequently discharging their service weapon.
