On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, the Metropolitan Police Department’s 7th District Environmental Crimes Unit, with the help of the District Department of Transportation, executed “Operation Shoe Drop,” and removed over 200+ pairs of shoes throughout the Seventh District.
Over the past few weeks, MPD identified over 50 streets and intersections across the Seventh District where multiple pairs of shoes had been thrown over various telephone and utility wires. These shoes can damage the wires and served as an eyesore to the community.
“The 7D Environmental Crimes Unit works hard to create a beautiful community for all Ward 8 residents,” 7th District Commander Andre Wright said, “and this was a great step toward accomplishing this goal for the community.”
