MPD Arrests Suspect in Southeast Shooting

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in a shooting that occurred in Southeast.

On Monday, May 5, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Seventh District officers responded for a report of a shooting in the 1600 block of W Street, Southeast. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female, conscious and breathing, suffering a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Surveillance footage captured the offense, and the suspects fleeing in a vehicle.

On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, with the assistance of United States Park Police, 22-year-old LaDarrius Whitaker, of Southeast, D.C., was arrested. As a result of MPD detectives’ investigation, LaDarrius Whitaker was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) and Destruction of Property.

The Metropolitan Police Department would like to extend its gratitude to the United States Park Police for their continued partnership and assistance throughout this investigation.
