MPD and the DC Police Foundation to Host Shop with a Cop Event at WALMART

Monday, December 2, 2019

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) would like to announce the annual Shop with a Cop event taking place on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. Approximately 100 pre-selected children ranging in age from 5 to 17 will partner with an MPD officer to shop for holiday gifts at the WALMART store. Members of the news media are invited to attend. This event is made possible by a grant from WALMART Corporation and the Washington DC Police Foundation. In addition, WALMART will be providing lunches for all participants of this event.

The Shop with a Cop program fosters strong community relationships by pairing public safety officials with in-need youth to shop for the children's families during the holidays. Preselected children and their families will gather at the Faith Moravian Church, 405 Riggs Road, NE, to be paired with officers.

“Our officers, including myself, look forward to this event every year. It gives us a chance to connect with the community and give back to those in need,” said Chief of Police Peter Newsham. “We are always grateful for the DC Police Foundation’s support to continue this annual tradition.”
