(Washington, DC) – Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, March 9, 2020, through Monday, March 16, 2020, MPD detectives and officers recovered 32 firearms in the District of Columbia.

Tuesday, March 10, 2020

  • A .40 caliber “Ghost Gun” handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 400 block of 51st Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 25-year-old Derrick R. Pitts, of Capitol Heights, MD, for Carrying a Pistol without a License and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. CCN: 20-043-078

  • A Taurus Millennium PT111 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 100 block of S Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 18-year-old Micah Crump, of no fixed address, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. CCN: 20-042-849
  • A Glock 19 BB gun was recovered in the 1300 block of New York Avenue, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 19-year-old Xiyuan Chang, of Springfield, VA, for Assault of with a Dangerous Weapon. CCN: 20-042-825

  • A Glock 17 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 4300 block of 3rd Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 26-year-old Kenneth Andrew Johnson, of Southeast, D.C., for Simple Assault, Felon in Possession, Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Receiving Stolen Property, Unlawful Possession of Liquid PCP, and Carrying a Pistol without a License.   • A Millennium PT140 Pro .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 1400 block of Holbrook Street, Northeast. CCN: 20-043-628
  • A Glock 27 .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 1200 block of Valley Avenue, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 24-year-old Jermelle Lee, of no fixed address, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and National Firearms Act.   • A Taurus 24/7 G2 .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 1300 block of S Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 27-year-old Tyrone Eugene Perry, Jr., of Northeast, D.C. and 31-year-old Rico Delata Johnson, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and No Permit.   • A Smith & Wesson MP45 .45 caliber handgun with laser sight was recovered in the 2600 block of 14th Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 20-year-old Martel Carlos Howard, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Felon in Possession, and Alter the Identification Marks of a Weapon.   • A .40 caliber “Ghost Gun” handgun was recovered in the 100 block of Kennedy Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 27-year-old Lenoris Allen Dickens, of Northwest, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • A Glock 43 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 3400 block of 23rd Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 17-year-old male juvenile, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Receiving Stolen Property. CCN: 20-045-530

  • A Sig Sauer P365 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 1500 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 24-year-old Aquil M. Carrington, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Permit Revoked, Allow Operation with Improper Tags, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Receiving Stolen Property.   • A Hi-Point .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 1500 block of Benning Road, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 42-year-old Darnell Terrell Stanley, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Felon in Possession, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.   • A Century Arms TP9SA 9mm caliber handgun and a Glock 23 Gen4 .40 caliber handgun were recovered in the 3600 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest. The following people were arrested: 27-year-old LaQuain Harrison, of Emporia, VA, and 26-year-old Reginald Jahmad Clark, of Emporia, VA, for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Carrying Excessive Amounts of Ammunition.   • A Hi-Point JCP .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 2700 block of 14th Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 35-year-old Rahfiel Sherrod Person, of Southeast, D.C., for Distribution of a Controlled Substance in a Drug Free Zone, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance.   • A .40 caliber “Ghost Gun” handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 2700 block of Bruce Place, Southeast. CCN: 20-046-670

  • A SCCY CPX-1 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 3500 block of Ames Street, Northeast. The following people were arrested: 29-year-old Carlos Wilson, of Northeast, D.C., and 27-year-old Jamul Johnson, of Southeast, D.C., for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed.   • An Umbrex 40XP 4.5 caliber BB gun was recovered in the 1400 block of Howard Road, Southeast. CCN: 20-046-636
  • A Taurus G2C 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 3000 block of 8th Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 28-year-old Eric Butler, of Southeast, D.C., for Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Carrying a Pistol without a License Prior Felon, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, No Permit, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • A Ruger EC9S 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 4200 block of 7th Street, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 31-year-old Ronald Clayton Durbin, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Felon in Possession, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Obliterate, Remove, Change, or Alter the Serial Number of a Firearm. It is one of MPD’s main goals to safely remove illegal firearms from DC streets to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. The responsibility to recover firearms falls on the -shoulders of all MPD officers. We also thank members of the community for their help in creating safe neighborhoods.

 

The Metropolitan Police Department also recovers firearms with the assistance of anonymous tips made through MPD’s anonymous tip line. Anyone who has information regarding gun recoveries should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information July be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $2,500 to anyone who provides information that leads to the recovery of an illegal firearm hidden in the District of Columbia.
