MPD’s Weekly Firearm Recoveries:

March 30, 2020 to April 6, 2020

 

(Washington, DC) – Every day, the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C. In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), and Crime Suppression Teams (CSTs)—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets. From Monday, March 30, 2020, through Monday, April 6, 2020, MPD detectives and officers recovered 20 firearms in the District of Columbia.

Tuesday, March 31, 2020

  • A Glock 48 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1800 block of Corcoran Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 18-year-old Andwari Saunders, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, National Firearms Act, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition. CCN: 20-053-344

  • An Ekol F1rat Compact 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 4400 block of Quarles Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 14-year-old male juvenile, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm. CCN: 20-053-255
  • A Glock 30S .45 caliber handgun was recovered in the 2600 block of Birney Place, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 25-year-old Dajuan Garris, of Northwest, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Felon in Possession, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Fleeing from a Law Enforcement Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance while Armed.   • A Glock 27 .40 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 200 block of V Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 16-year-old male juvenile, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.   • A 9mm caliber “Ghost Gun” handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1500 block of Butler Street, Southeast. CCN: 20-053-679

  • A Springfield Armory XD-40 .40 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 4200 block of 4th Street, Southeast. CCN: 20-053-699

  • A Glock 19 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 2200 block of Savannah Terrace, Southeast. The following person was arrested: 41-year-old Laprince L. Stephens, of Southeast, D.C., for Felon in Possession, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • A Taurus PT111G2 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 5900 block of Foote Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 16-year-old male juvenile, of Southwest, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.   • A Taurus Millennium G2 .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the 300 block of Emerson Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 39-year-old Pierre Paul Turnage, of Northwest, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License and Driving under the Influence. CCN: 20-054-582

  • A Smith & Wesson M&P40 .40 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 4400 block of G Street, Southeast. CCN: 20-054-819

  • A Taurus 709 Slim 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 3900 block of Dix Street, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 26-year-old Dominique Christian Jones, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Felon in Possession, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.   • A Glock 42 .380 caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered at the 4300 block of Wheeler Road, Southeast. CCN: 20-054-701

  • A Taurus PT111 G2 9mm caliber handgun was recovered in the 1700 block of Montello Avenue, Northeast. The following person was arrested: 26-year-old Delonta Jackson, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Felon in Possession, Receiving Stolen Property, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Unregistered Ammunition.   • A Smith & Wesson SD9VE 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1400 block of V Street, Northwest. The following person was arrested: 24-year-old Sterling Davis, of Northeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Device.   • A Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1300 block of Saratoga Avenue, Northeast. CCN: 20-055-281

Monday, April 6, 2020

  • A Springfield Armory XD-9 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 1400 block of 4th Street, Southwest. The following person was arrested: 23-year-old Keyante Edwards, of Southeast, D.C., for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. CCN: 20-055-706

  • A Taurus PT809 9mm caliber handgun (pictured below) was recovered in the 5500 block of Blaine Street, Northeast. CCN: 20-055-594

 

 

 

 

It is one of MPD’s main goals to safely remove illegal firearms from DC streets to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. The responsibility to recover firearms falls on the -shoulders of all MPD officers. We also thank members of the community for their help in creating safe neighborhoods.

 

The Metropolitan Police Department also recovers firearms with the assistance of anonymous tips made through MPD’s anonymous tip line. Anyone who has information regarding gun recoveries should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information July be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $2,500 to anyone who provides information that leads to the recovery of an illegal firearm hidden in the District of Columbia.
