Homicide: 700 Block of Chesapeake Street, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, in the 700 block of Chesapeake Street, Southeast.

At approximately 8:05 am, members of the Seventh District responded to a residential building, at the listed location for a check on the welfare assignment. Upon arrival, members located an adult female victim, inside of a residence, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found that the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 32 year-old Dilcia Rodriguez, of Southeast, DC.

As a result of the detectives’ investigation, a suspect was developed in this case. The investigation further revealed that this offense is domestic in nature. On Wednesday, October 16, 2019, the suspect, 37 year-old Calvin Aughtry, of Southeast, DC, was located in Prince George’s County, Maryland, inside of a vehicle, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The exact cause and manner of death will be determined at an autopsy to be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland.
