Homicide: 3300 Block of Ely Place, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, January 5, 2019, in the 3300 Block of Ely Place, Southeast.

At approximately 6:30 am, DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the listed location for a residential fire. Once the fire was extinguished, two victims were located inside the residence. Both victims displayed no signs consistent with life. The victims remained on the scene until being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

On Sunday, January 6, 2019, an autopsy was performed on the victims’ remains. As a result, the manner of death for each victim was ruled a homicide.

The first decedent has been identified as 60-year-old Joseph Burgess, of Southeast, DC. The second decedent has been identified as 50-year-old Regina Bowman, of Southeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
