Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in reference to a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 in the 2400 block of Virginia Avenue, Northwest.
At approximately 2:35 pm, members of the Second District responded to the listed location for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, suffering from multiple stab wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 48 year-old Kevin Chamberlain, of no fixed address.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect was also an aggressor in an Assault with Intent to Kill (Knife) offense that occurred on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at approximately 12:37 pm, in the 800 block of Vermont Avenue, Northwest.
On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, 51 year-old Joseph Melton, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed and Assault with Intent to Kill (Knife).
