Death Investigation: 4200 Block of Barnaby Road, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch and the Internal Affairs Division are investigating a death that occurred on Monday, December 30, 2019, in the 4200 block of Barnaby Road, Southeast.

 

On Sunday, December 29, 2019, at approximately 10:43 pm, armed private security guards employed by Metropolitan Tactical Elite Protective Services were securing a vacant building at the listed location. While in the building, the security guards came in contact with an armed, adult suspect. There was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and one of the security guards. Following the exchange of gunfire, the suspect fled from the security guards. MPD responded to the scene to secure the building and conduct a search, and were unable to locate the suspect.

 

On Monday, December 30, 2019, at approximately 4:51 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, members located an adult individual, in a building, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

 

The decedent’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification. As the investigation progressed, it was learned by detectives that the decedent identified as a transgender female.

 

Due to the use of force by private security guards, MPD’s Homicide Branch and Internal Affairs Division is conducting an ongoing investigation into this incident.
