Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred on Saturday, March 23, 2019 in the 1200 block of Brentwood Road, Northeast.
At approximately 10:26 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, in the 1300 block of Saratoga Avenue, Northeast. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 23-year-old Rafiq Hawkins, of Northeast, DC.
On Friday, July 19, 2019, 19 year-old Raymond Avent, of Baltimore, MD., was arrested by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF) and was transported to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.
