Arrest Made in a Fatal Fire: 700 Block of Kennedy Street, Northwest

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Task Force have announced an arrest has been made in reference to a fatal fire that occurred on Sunday, August 18, 2019 in the 700 block of Kennedy Street, Northwest.

At approximately 9:36 am, members of the Fourth District and DC Fire and EMS responded to a fire, inside of a structure, at the listed location. Upon gaining entry to the structure, members of DC Fire and EMS located an adult male and a juvenile male inside. Both of the victims were transported to area hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries sustained as a result of the fire.

 

On Sunday, August 18, 2019, 40-year-old Fitsum Getachew Kebede, of Northwest, DC succumbed to his injuries.

 

On Tuesday, August 20, 2019, 9-year-old Yafet Solomen, of Northwest, DC succumbed to his injuries.

 

On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, as a result of a DC Superior Court bench warrant, members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Task Force located and arrested 61 year-old James Walker, of Baltimore, MD. He had been previously indicted on two counts of Second Degree Murder and two counts of Involuntary Manslaughter.
