Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District have announced an arrest has been made in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) offense that occurred on Friday, April 26, 2019, in the Unit block of N Street, Northwest.
At approximately 4:49 pm, the suspect approached the victim at the listed location. The suspect brandished a handgun and shot the victim. The suspect then entered a vehicle and fled the scene.
On Monday, May 6, 2019, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 28 year-old Dominic Balial Copeland, of Rockville, MD, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
This case remains under investigation. MPD still seeks the public’s help in locating 27 year-old Artie Byrd, of Northwest, DC. Byrd is wanted on a DC Superior Court arrest warrant in reference to this case and can be seen in the photo below.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a shooting committed in the District of Columbia.
