Arrest Made and Additional Suspect Sought in Armed Robbery and Attempted Armed Carjacking Offenses in the Fourth District

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Fourth District announce an arrest has been made and an additional suspect is sought in reference to Armed Robbery and Attempted Armed Carjacking offenses that occurred on Friday, March 3, 2023, in the Fourth District.

 

At approximately 5:36 pm, the suspects approached the victim in the 4000 block of 8th Street, Northeast. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s property. The suspects took the victim’s vehicle keys and then both suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle. Armed Robbery CCN: 23034093

 

At approximately 5:42 pm, the suspects approached the victim, who was inside of their vehicle, in the 4800 block of North Capitol Street, Northeast.  One of the suspects entered the victim’s vehicle, brandished a handgun, and demanded the victim exit the vehicle.  A struggle ensued and during the struggle, the handgun discharged striking the suspect.  Both suspects then fled the scene.  A handgun was recovered on the scene.  The suspect was located at a local hospital receiving treatment for a gunshot wound.  Attempted Armed Carjacking CCN:  23034081

 

On Friday, March 3, 2023, 20-year-old Basil Thomas, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged in the above offenses.

 

These cases remain under investigation. The additional suspect was captured by nearby surveillance cameras and can be seen in the photos below:
