MPD Investigating Interstate 295 Fatal Crash

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit (MCIU) is investigating a single vehicle traffic fatality that occurred in Southeast.

On Monday, October 26, 2026, at approximately 12:35 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to Interstate 295 northbound, prior to Exit 2, for the report of a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers located a Toyota 4Runner in an embankment and found the operator unconscious and not breathing, suffering from injuries sustained in the crash. DC Fire and EMS responded, and after observing no signs consistent with life, pronounced the operator dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling at an accelerated speed when the operator lost control and struck a guardrail, causing the vehicle to launch into a wooded area and come to a final stop against a tree. No other vehicles were involved, and the operator was the sole occupant.

The decedent has been identified as 76-year-old Baldwin Rudolph Robertson, of Northeast, D.C.

This crash remains an ongoing investigation. Anyone who has knowledge of this incident should call the police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
