Are you ready to embark on a journey that challenges, excites, and empowers you? Welcome to the MPD Youth Expeditioner Program—a transformative experience where young people can step into the world of public service and law enforcement, right here in Washington, DC.
The Youth Expeditioner Program, a collaboration between the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the Washington DC Police Foundation, offers young adults the unique opportunity to explore careers in law enforcement. Through hands-on activities, you’ll dive deep into what it takes to serve and protect your community. Each session allows you to take on real-world challenges, whether it’s participating in safety drills, recreating crime scenes, or learning how first responders handle emergencies.
The program is open to individuals in the 6th through 8th grades. Expeditioners will meet twice a week at a local school to participate in police-themed activities, while learning foundational skills and getting a glimpse into the world of public safety. Each session will consist of engaging with officers and public safety professionals, learning new skills, and learning to grow as a leader. You will get to visit police facilities and interact with police officers who are happy to share their experiences and knowledge with you. This is a great way to build your leadership skills, meet other people your age who share your interests, learn more about law enforcement in a big city, and make connections that can last your entire life.
Expeditioners are required to purchase their own uniforms (with hardship waivers available), but the program has no ongoing costs. Thanks to our partnership with the Washington DC Police Foundation, everything else you need will be provided. We simply ask that you come ready to learn, collaborate, and lead.
