Deputy Chief of Staff

Alexa Daniels serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Metropolitan Police Department. In this capacity, Ms. Daniels serves as an advisor to the Chief of Staff and assists in supervising and managing the day-to-day operations of the Executive Office of the Chief of Police. In addition, Ms. Daniels assists in facilitating effective decision making and streamlining information sharing with both internal and external stakeholders. Ms. Daniels joined MPD in May 2022.

Previously, Ms. Daniels was a Senior Principal at the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) where she led projects developing best practices in a variety of law enforcement topics including vehicle pursuits, responses to mass casualty events, and facial recognition technology. Prior to moving to Washington, DC, Ms. Daniels served as a Police Special Investigator for the Los Angeles Police Department’s Office of the Inspector General. As a member of the Use of Force section, she authored several public reports on the LAPD’s policing practices and use of force. In addition, she drafted the LAPD’s policy for releasing video from critical incidents to the public and was responsible for monitoring and providing input on the development and implementation of LAPD training. In 2019, Ms. Daniels participated in the Ian Axford Fellowships in Public Policy program and researched strategies for how the police in New Zealand build trust with the communities they serve.

Prior to joining the LAPD, Ms. Daniels worked as a Special Investigator at the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Office of the Independent Assessor. In that role, she wrote public reports on the LAFD’s employment-related litigation, risk management practices, and disciplinary system. Ms. Daniels is an attorney and holds both a Juris Doctor and Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Southern California, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
