Arrest Made in an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) and Assault on a Police Officer while Armed Offense: 900 Block New Jersey Avenue, Northwest

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announce an arrest has been made in reference to an Assault on a Police Officer and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) offense that occurred on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, in the 900 block of New Jersey Avenue, Northwest.

At approximately 11:20 am, members of the First District were on patrol when they heard sounds of gunshots coming from the direction of the listed location. Upon arrival, members observed the suspect, shooting at a fleeing vehicle. The suspect then pointed the handgun at responding officers and fled the scene in a vehicle with a second suspect driving. As members pursued, the suspect fired from the vehicle at the pursuing officers. The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in the area of New York Avenue and Kendall Street, Northeast. One of the suspects was apprehended by responding officers. The second suspect fled the scene on foot. Two handguns were recovered on the scene.

On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, 22 year-old Ahmarrae Brooks, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Assault on a Police Officer while Armed (Felony), Felon in Possession, Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Possession of Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Felony Fleeing and Eluding, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession With Intent to Distribute Amphetamines, and Possession of PCP.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia.
