How to Register a Firearm or Apply for a CCL

The same general process is followed for either a firearm registration or a concealed carry license.  

  • Complete the relevant training: 
    • For registration applicants only, watch the Metropolitan Police Department’s free online firearms training, available in the MPD Firearms Portal
    • For concealed carry license applicants, complete training with a Metropolitan Police Department-certified concealed carry training instructor
  • Complete the Application for Firearm Registration or Concealed Carry License (*New or Renewal), and if registering a firearm, complete a PD 219. 
    • You may complete these forms online via the Portal, or you may complete and print paper copies to submit at your appointment. 
    • Obtain two proofs of residency for your application. 
  • Schedule your in-person appointment to be fingerprinted and photographed, via the Portal
  • Pay the relevant fees
  • To complete your application, you must: 
    • Provide at your appointment or upload to your profile on the Portal: 
      • Two (2) proofs of residency 
      • Training certificate 
    • At your appointment, be fingerprinted and photographed  
    • Do not bring your firearm to the appointment.
