Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Saturday evening on Interstate 295.
On Saturday, November 22, 2025, at approximately 5:05 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to I-295 northbound just before Exit 4 for the report of a single-vehicle traffic accident involving a Jeep Grand Cherokee. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the driver, an adult male, to an area hospital, where despite all lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
The preliminary investigation determined the driver was traveling northbound on I-295 at a high rate of speed and weaving through traffic. The vehicle crossed multiple lanes of traffic before crashing into a jersey wall.
The driver has been identified as 60-year-old Jerome Bowman, of Capitol Heights, MD.
