MPD Makes Arrest in Fatal Southeast Shooting

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred in Southeast.

On Sunday, May 5, 2024, at approximately 7:41 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to the 3500 block of Stanton Road, Southeast, for the reports of sounds of gunshots. While officers were on-scene investigating, two victims suffering from gunshot wounds arrived at an area hospital for treatment. Despite all lifesaving efforts, an adult male succumbed to his injuries. The second victim, an adult male, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The decedent has been identified as 31-year-old Anthony White, of Northwest, DC.

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 17-year-old Damari Thomas, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged, as an adult under Title 16, with Second Degree Murder while Armed.

This case remains under investigation. Anyone who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
