Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on Monday, February 11, 2019, in the 1500 block of North Capitol Street, Northwest.
The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 11:34 pm, the operator of a 2009 BMW X5 was travelling south on North Capitol Street, NW, and approached the south side of Florida Avenue, Northwest. The operator then struck the pedestrian who was walking in the 1500 block of North Capitol Street, Northwest. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services were summoned to the scene and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital. After all lifesaving efforts failed, the pedestrian was pronounced dead. The operator of the BMW remained on the scene.
The decedent has been identified as 56-year-old Troy Sandy Austin, of Southeast, DC.
